· Understand the government's needs and priorities - To effectively market your company to the government you need to have a good understanding of what the government wants and needs. This means that you need to research government agencies that might be interested in your product or service. You need to know what their goals are, what their challenges are, and what their budget constraints are.


· Develop a strong value proposition – Once you’ve identified the government’s needs and objectives, you’ll need to create a compelling value proposition (VWP) that clearly explains how your company’s products or services will help the government accomplish its objectives. Your VWP should emphasize the unique advantages and benefits your company provides over your competitors.


· Build relationships with government officials - Building relationships with government officials is critical to successfully marketing your business to the government. Attend government events, trade shows and conferences and spend time networking and building relationships with key decision makers.


· Registration with relevant government agencies - For public contracts, it is important to consider registration with relevant government agencies. This includes registration in the System for Award Management (SAM), which is a public contractor registration database.


· Be patient and persistent - Marketing your business to the government can be a long process and requires patience and persistence. Keep in touch with government officials and keep looking for opportunities even if you don't win your first offer.
